Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

This privacy policy explains how personal information is handled when you visit paulsaulnier.com, view my photography and articles, leave a comment, or contact me. This personal website is operated by Paul Saulnier in Canada.

Contacting me

If you use the contact form, I receive the name you provide, your email address, and your message. If you email me directly, I receive your email address and whatever information you include in your message. I use this information to respond to your enquiry and manage our correspondence. Contact-form emails also include the submitting IP address to help investigate spam and abuse. If you enquire about licensing a photograph, I also use the image links and intended-use details you provide to assess and respond to that request. Email sent to this domain is handled by Google’s mail services. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed for your enquiry.

Cloudflare security and Turnstile

I use Cloudflare to help deliver and secure the site, and Cloudflare Turnstile to protect contact forms from spam and automated abuse. Turnstile security code can load on pages even when no contact form is displayed. Your browser connects to Cloudflare, which processes technical signals such as your IP address, browser user agent, connection characteristics, and the website involved to distinguish visitors from bots. Cloudflare also uses these signals to improve its bot-detection capabilities. See the Turnstile Privacy Addendum and Cloudflare privacy policy.

Cloudflare security features may use cookies or similar browser storage to remember security checks, depending on the features enabled. Details are available in Cloudflare’s cookie documentation. If you prefer not to use a protected form, you can email me directly; visiting the website can still involve Cloudflare’s delivery and security services.

Comments and replies

When you leave a comment, WordPress collects the information entered in the comment form, along with technical information such as your IP address and browser user agent for moderation and spam prevention. Your comment, display name, and any website link you provide can be displayed publicly. Your email address is not displayed with your comment.

I use comment information to manage discussions, identify spam, and respond to you. Replies posted in a discussion are public. If I respond by email, your email address is used for that correspondence.

The site supports Gravatar profile images. If an avatar is loaded, a hash derived from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to look up an image, and your browser may contact Gravatar to display it. See Automattic’s privacy policy.

Cookies and technical information

WordPress and the services supporting this site may use cookies for login sessions, security, and saved preferences. If the comment form offers to remember your details and you select that option, cookies can save those details in your browser for a later comment.

SiteGround hosts this website and may process visitor information in server logs, including IP addresses, requested URLs, request times, browser user agents, referring pages, and connection or cache information. SiteGround and the site’s security tools use technical records to operate the site, troubleshoot problems, and detect abuse. Backups can contain site content, comments, and associated personal information. Hosting tools may also produce traffic statistics from server records.

You can review, block, or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect sign-in, saved preferences, or embedded content.

Google resources and analytics

I use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site, including which pages they visit, how they arrive, and how they interact with the content. Google Analytics may use cookies and similar technologies and process information such as your IP address, browser and device information, referring pages, and usage activity. I use these statistics to improve the site and its content. The site also uses Google Fonts; loading fonts sends technical information needed to deliver them, such as your IP address and browser information, to Google. You can manage cookies in your browser and learn about opting out of Google Analytics using Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google describes its handling of information in its privacy policy; further information about fonts is available in the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.

Embedded content and external links

Articles may include embedded videos, such as YouTube videos, and links to other websites. Loading an embed can send technical information to the provider and allow it to use cookies or recognise you if you are signed in to its service. Those providers handle information under their own policies. Following an external link takes you to a website whose privacy practices I do not control.

Service providers and disclosures

Information may be processed by service providers supporting hosting, email delivery, security, spam prevention, and embedded content. These include SiteGround for hosting and backups; Cloudflare for site delivery, security, and Turnstile; Google for email, fonts, analytics resources, and YouTube embeds; and Gravatar for profile images. See the SiteGround privacy policy and Cloudflare privacy policy.

Some providers may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws and lawful access by authorities. Processing locations depend on each provider’s infrastructure and the services used. Contact Paul Saulnier at [email protected] to ask about these providers, processing locations, or the site’s practices for information handled outside Canada. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when necessary to investigate abuse and protect the site or the rights of others.

How long information is kept

Published comments and related moderation information may remain for as long as the discussion is available. Contact correspondence is kept as needed to respond, maintain relevant records, and address follow-up questions. Technical logs, security records, and backups are retained according to the site’s operational needs and the applicable service providers’ settings. Information removed from the active site may remain in backups until those backups are replaced or expire.

Security

The site uses HTTPS to encrypt information in transit. Hosting and security services help protect the site and its accounts. Information sent in a public comment is visible to other visitors, so do not include private information you do not want published.

Your choices and requests

You can choose not to submit a comment or contact form, limit what you share, and manage cookies through your browser. You may ask to withdraw consent for uses based on consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; doing so may limit my ability to respond or provide the requested service. To ask about personal information associated with you, request access or correction, or ask for removal of a comment or other personal information, contact me at [email protected]. Include the relevant page URL and enough information to identify your request. I may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and some information may need to be retained for legal or security reasons.

If you are identifiable in a photograph on this site and have a privacy concern about its use, email me with the photograph or page URL so I can review your request. For a privacy complaint, first contact me so I can investigate and respond.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy as the site and its services change. The date above indicates the latest revision.
