I was in Houston recently on business, and you may have already seen my post about the flooding there. One afternoon, I headed to Galveston on the coast which is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

- Having been to the field while working in the oil and gas industry of Alberta, it was quite interesting to tour a drilling rig set up as a museum.

- This is a view looking up through the derrick, which is the tower that is usually one of the more visible elements of a drilling rig from a distance.

- Many birds can be seen along Galveston’s coastline near the Ocean Star Museum.

- The Strand Historic District has many old buildings which have been preserved and reused. This old building has seen better days, and seemingly will see better days again sometime soon. Behind it, a large office tower dwarfs the smaller buildings. It is one of the only tall buildings in the area.

- I usually enjoy seeing old buildings, but I was really drawn more to the Seawall area along the coast. Looking out, all you see is ocean!

- Fisherman on bicycles can be seen all along the coast. This reminded me of the fisherman on motorcycles in Shenzhen, China.

- I love how the tire tracks in the sand and the bird formations line up here. It was great to explore the beach during a beautiful sunset.
